Our story

AnkleMotion is a compact, affordable and effective portable personal exercise device suitable for patients with poor mobility, leg swelling secondary to poor heart function or poor venous circulation, patients recovering from surgery and even people with a sedentary lifestyle.

AnkleMotion gently flexes and extends the user’s feet (Continuous Passive Motion – CPM) which simulates walking. This passive motion helps the blood circulation and reduces leg swelling and lessens the risk of blood clots (DVT – deep venous thrombosis). In patients recovering from knee surgery it provides additional benefits of improving muscle and joint function. Patients suffering from leg swelling due to varicose veins may benefit significantly.

Several publications in scientific journals support the use of the principle of AnkleMotion.

AnkleMotion is compact, lightweight, durable and easy to use. Its unique DC powered design allows use at home or in a car during

long trips. At home it can be used whilst seated in a chair / recliner or lying in bed. AnkleMotion has significant advantages over other devices in the market with its compact, lightweight, adjustable and portable design.

Changing from a seated position to reclining or lying down position is achieved through a simple adjustment. Speed can be controlled with a remote control or direct pressing on the device.

Modern lifestyles are often sedentary and makes one suffer higher health risks. Active exercise is certainly the mainstay of reversing these risks. For some people active exercise may not be an option and for them this simple yet effective device brings the benefits of ambulation and the associated health benefits.

Founder and CEO

Dr Antony Mathew is the inventor of the AnkleMotion device and the founder of AnkleMotion LLC. As a senior pulmonary and critical care physician in Florida, Dr Mathew noticed that patients discharged from hospital without optimised post discharge care suffered poorer outcomes especially an increased risk of blood clots in the legs in patients who had recently undergone surgery. Lack of access to DVT prophylaxis and relatively expensive services like physiotherapy and rehabilitation was one of the main reasons for the poor outcomes. This was the main motivation that led Dr Mathew to design the AnkleMotion device with the help of a group of physicians. Dr Mathew holds the utility patent and design patents for the device and is responsible for the business transactions.
